About This Work

Suite Actuality was an ongoing collaboration with composer and violinist Andrea Keeble, developing from a work-in-progress workshop in 2013 to a complete seven-movement work for string quartet, voice and visuals that premiered as the Festival of Slow Music finale in 2015. The work poses the question What do we really see, hear and feel? through an exploration of sight, sound, perception and emotion. My visual improvisation responded to and interacted with three classical movements and four spontaneous musical movements, creating a multi-sensory exploration that challenged audiences to share a common experience. Based around Andrea Keeble's original photographs, my live visual responses created an evolving dialogue between fixed and fluid elements. The work continually asked audiences Do you see what we see? as the visuals bent and flowed around the musical performance, creating a rich internal understanding through collective experience.
