About This Work
Solo in Red represented a significant collaboration with composer Kynan Robinson, creating live projections for a large-scale projection work that drew its inspiration from Cormac McCarthy's epic masterpiece Blood Meridian. Commissioned by and premiered at the Melbourne Writers Festival, this work combined music, video and performance in a uniquely powerful artistic statement. My visual installation and design work, created in collaboration with Emmily Caspi, provided the visual foundation for Robinson's compositions performed by the ensemble Collider. The work involved a highly technical and moving video component that complemented the musical narrative exploring the atmospheres of McCarthy's violent, poetic novel. The production was critically acclaimed, with reviewers noting how the visual elements transported audiences to a lawless realm, the delicacy and harshness of which is conveyed in a meticulously realised soundscape. This collaboration demonstrated my ability to work within literary and musical contexts while maintaining the visual impact essential to the overall artistic vision.
